FORNAV moves to the layout type “Custom”
With the Customizable Report Pack version 8.0, FORNAV moves from using the layout type “Word” to using the layout type “Custom”. This supports the transition from the previous layout to the new Custom layout subsystem in Business Central.
When customers using Business Central 25 or later upgrade to the Customizable Report Pack version 8.0:
- All FORNAV layouts will be moved to use layout type “Custom”, with the “Mime Type” “FORNAV”.
- All reports in the Customizable Report Pack will have built-in layouts with the name “FORNAV”, “Custom”, with the “Mime Type” “FORNAV”.
- All custom FORNAV reports using a built-in layout with the layout type “Word” will continue to work.
- All layout functionality in the Customizable Report Pack will use the new layout type.
- Old and new FORNAV backups will continue to work on all versions of the Customizable Report Pack.
- When creating new or upgrading existing custom reports, the built-in layout will automatically be “Custom”, with the “Mime Type” “FORNAV”.
This means that all FORNAV reports with or without custom layouts will continue to work in the same way as today, and the customer will not experience any differences.
When Business Central 27 is released in the fall of 2025, it will no longer be possible to use FORNAV reports with the layout type “Word”. This means that the FORNAV Customizable Report Pack will block execution reports with the layout type “Word” moving forward.
- For existing custom FORNAV reports using a built-in layout with the layout type “Word”, you must upgrade to the latest FORNAV Customizable Report Pack and Designer and do one of the following to use the layout type “Custom” with the “Mime Type” “FORNAV” and make the reports run again:
- If you have your report source code in a vs.code project, you can upgrade the reports by connecting the FORNAV Designer, opening the report AL-files with the FORNAV Designer, and saving them again. This will automatically upgrade the report to use the new layout type.
- If you have uploaded your report using Save as Object on Server, you can use the FORNAV Designer, select Open Report from Server, and save it using Save as Object on Server. This will automatically upgrade the report to use the new layout type.
- If you try to run a FORNAV report using a built-in layout with the layout type “Word”, you get the choice to create a custom layout with layout type “Custom”, and the “Mime Type” “FORNAV”, which is a copy of the built-in layout. The layout will automatically be activated and replace the use of the built-in layout.
- To upgrade layouts in your own FORNAV reports, you must run the FORNAV Health check in FORNAV Setup and use the Auto Fix action.
