Characters are shown as square boxes

Some output types, such as PDF or Microsoft Word can sometimes show characters as square boxes or not at all. The reason for this is typically that you are using a font that does not contain the characters that you are trying to display. Especially Asian languages use characters that are unknown to most Windows fonts.

Fixing this problem is relatively simple: You install a font that contains these characters and select it for the controls in the report. Your Windows installation could have the proper fonts already, if you have installed the language pack that contains these fonts.

The following is a list of the fonts that are available for Windows 10.

If you want to install additional fonts, you must add a language pack to your Windows installation. If you do not want to add the full language pack, then you can add fonts using the Control Panel under additional Windows features.
